Once you have made an appointment you will be sent:
- A letter confirming your appointment date, time, and location.
- A new patient registration form. Please complete your registration forms and return them to us along with your referral letter prior to your appointment.
Please bring the following to your first appointment:
- Referral letter (unless it has already been sent).
- Completed new patient registration form (unless you have already returned it).
- Medicare, private health insurance, and department of veterans’ affairs (DVA) card(s) (if applicable).
- A list of the medications you take regularly.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
At your first visit, your doctor will discuss the reason for your visit, and ask you questions. You will also be asked about your medical history.
Your doctor may recommend performing a physical examination. Sometimes this may include an intimate examination such as genital, vaginal and/or rectal examination. If this is required, your doctor will explain the examination to you and obtain your consent before the examination.
Based on your history, examination and initial test results, your doctor will discuss the potential causes for your problem and the treatment options available.
You may be referred for further tests, such as blood tests, urine tests, or scans. You may be asked to return for another consultation to discuss the results of tests or to talk over your treatment options again.
Your doctor may recommend a test called a flexible cystoscopy, which can be performed in our on-site procedure room at the same time as your appointment. Please note, there will be a separate fee for a cystoscopy in addition to your consultation fee.
If your doctor recommends surgery, this will be discussed with you in detail. We will also discuss the time, location, and anticipated costs, prior to deciding whether you would like to go ahead.
A letter summarising your appointment will be sent to your general practitioner or referring doctor.
